The 2022 World Series is scheduled to resume Monday night in Philadelphia with Game 3 between the Houston Astros and the Philadelphia Phillies. The two clubs parted ways for games one and two at Minute Maid Park in Houston, and now the best-of-five series has moved to Citizens Bank Park. Here’s how to watch Game 3. Rain is expected throughout the night and into Tuesday morning. Game 1 is currently scheduled for 8:03 p.m. ET, and MLB has met twice to discuss the weather. Officials last met at 5 p.m. ET and were unable to make a decision. According to Major League Baseballrain is still in the forecast, and they hope to see more clarity when they meet again at 6:45 p.m. ET.

Major League Baseball makes all weather-related decisions in the playoffs, and the league’s priority is to play nine innings without a break. MLB wants to avoid starting games and then force everyone to wait a while later. The league also prefers to start games late at night after half the country is in bed.
If the Astros and Phillies do play Game 3 on Monday, it could be similar to Game 5 of the NLCS, when the Phillies and Padres start on time and both teams spend most of the game It rained everywhere, sometimes including heavy rain. This postseason has two weather-related postponements (Games 2 and 5 of the ALDS between the Yankees and Guards).
Coincidentally, Philadelphia is home to MLB’s most infamous World Series weather woes. Game 5 of the 2008 World Series was suspended midway through the sixth inning due to rain. The Rays had just tied the game at 2-2 in the first half while the club experienced a downpour. Afterwards, then-commissioner Bad Selig announced that all World Series games must be played in nine innings.
“I’m not going to allow that to happen,” Selig told The Associated Press when asked about the possibility of the rainy season shortening the World Series. “I have to use my judgment. It’s going to rain until the weather conditions allow us to continue playing. That could be 24 hours or 48 hours, or who knows?”
Game 5 continued the next day as the Phillies won their first World Series title since 1980 with Pedro Feliz’s seventh-inning RBI single. Whenever the Astros and Phillies play Game 3 of this year’s World Series, right-hand Noah Syndergard (10-10, 3.94 ERA) and Lance McCullers Jr. . (4-2, 2.27 ERA) will be the starting pitcher.
