In August, the Western Regional Career and Technology Center hired Faith Morelli, a new Practical Nursing Program Administrator. Morelli has worked as a nurse, instructor, and administrator in numerous nursing programs in the United States and Jamaica. In her short time at the helm of the program, she has implemented several innovations, including simulation labs, an online learning platform, access to e-books, and instructor-led learning sessions for students. As we continue to see an increasing need for healthcare professionals, Faith has also taken steps to restore the Certified Nurse Assistance Program.
Across the country, demand for medical professionals is on the rise. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities for nurse practitioners are projected to grow 9 percent over the next decade, while demand for CNAs is projected to grow 11 percent. If you’ve ever considered working in the health field, now is an ideal time to start training. Our programs offer tuition assistance, scholarship opportunities, diverse clinical experiences and simulation laboratories.
Our school may not be the biggest, and it may not be the best known, but we’re still here, and we’ve been here since 1985. We are always looking to grow our faculty and expand our student body. If you are interested in helping adult students achieve their goals of working in this growing industry, please send your resume to jpettigrew@wactc.net. We are currently looking for full-time and part-time instructors for our Practical Nursing program.
As a prospective student at the Western Area Career and Technology Center, the first step in the admissions process is to fill out the application form and contact the secretary to gather information about the specific requirements of each program. Our next practical nursing course will start in August 2023. We are also currently offering a 12-week phlebotomy course, with the next course due to start in January 2023. You can access the application and many other documents and descriptions of our current programs by visiting our website at wactc.net and clicking the “Practical Nursing Courses” tab at the top of the page. We look forward to helping you realize your dreams!
