RENO, NV (KOLO) – Khalilah Cage has an impressive resume. She is co-owner of five local bars/restaurants including Brewer’s Cabinet, Ole Bridge Pub, Sierra Tap House and Shim’s Surplus Supplies. She serves on Artown’s Board of Directors. She is a singer/performer at the Shim speakeasy. She is the co-creator and host of the “I Am She” podcast. Soon, she will launch a new podcast called “Let the Kids Talk,” sharing insights on how her 12-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter are navigating challenging times.
Through it all, she continues to share the message that being vulnerable is a strength and there is nothing shameful in asking for help. As a mom and small business owner, this pandemic has been hard to navigate. As countless other women face similar challenges, it can often feel like they have no one to turn to for support. Cage is committed to providing much-needed support.
Now, her message and efforts are being recognized nationally as the third finalist in NewBeauty Magazine’s “Fab Over 40” competition. She said she was delighted to be among the top three among the more than 60 women nominated.
Cage stops by Morning Break to talk about overcoming depression, being vulnerable, asking for help, and supporting others.
She will perform at Shim’s Speakeasy (125 W. 3rd Street, Reno) on Saturday, November 11th. 26. Doors open at 8:30. You can also catch the “Ode to Upcycling” fashion show at Shim’s earlier in the day at 2pm.
