New York crime: Man arrested after being stabbed to death on MTA Bronx bus

Mott Haven, Bronx (WABC) — A man stabbed to death during an altercation on an MTA bus in the Bronx is the eighth person killed in the transit system this year and the third in 10 days.

Lamont Barkley, 55, got into an altercation on a BX19 bus with a man and a woman, believed to be boyfriend and girlfriend, about 8.25pm on Sunday.

The brawl escalated, with police saying the man stabbed Barkley in the stomach multiple times at East 149th Street and Gerrard Avenue. He died in hospital.

Detectives first encountered 42-year-old Ebony Jackson at Lincoln Hospital on Sunday night while she was being treated for what they believe had been injured in the melee.

Detectives believe that Barkley first got into an argument with Jackson at a bar in Glenroy, 145 East 149th Street, the same street where he was killed. They believe that when Barkley left the bar, Jackson called her boyfriend, who then confronted Barkley on the bus.

Boyfriend was not arrested.

Jackson is still being treated at Lincoln Hospital. She was charged with murder and manslaughter.

Buckley’s death is the eighth incident in the transit system this year.

Last week, Charles Moore, 38, was stabbed multiple times in the back and chest by a suspect who was behind him as he got off a northbound 4 train Thursday night in the Bronx. Appeared, police said they believed it was unprovoked. attack.

Just hours before Moore was stabbed to death, two other victims were stabbed in seemingly random attacks on the subway.

On Monday, riders said they now had more questions about where and whether it was really safe to ride city buses, but many told Witness News they had no choice.

“It’s hard and then you have to go to work in the morning and then go down a few blocks and it becomes a zombie village, which sucks,” one resident said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) in Spanish.
