Huhtamaki is committed to providing sustainable packaging solutions that have a positive impact on the environment. It actively works with innovative consumer brands to redesign the future of packaging. The success of this partnership demonstrates how innovation and collaboration can enable a circular economy and address climate action by achieving carbon neutrality, without forgetting other environmental and social aspects of sustainability.
We see this technology as a paradigm shift in how we use renewable wood fibers in complex food packaging. This innovation opens up new avenues when it comes to using fiber in food packaging. Huhtamaki’s high precision technology means we can capture the very clear sustainability benefits of renewable wood fiber in an extended range of packaging solutions that deliver superior functionality, ensure food safety and maintain their quality.
We see the development of this technology as a game-changer milestone for sustainable packaging – not only because of sustainability and food protection features, but also because of new use case possibilities. We believe we will be able to replace, for example, bottle caps and closures made of plastic or metal today. Other potential applications are trays or containers that require lids to seal directly onto the tray and be able to be opened/reclosed.
