Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of failed cryptocurrency exchange FTX, was arrested on Monday after U.S. prosecutors filed criminal charges against him, according to a statement from the Bahamian government. The Bahamas were arrested.

The Southern District of New York, which is investigating the collapse of Bankman-Fried and FTX, confirmed his arrest on Twitter.

“Earlier this evening, Bahamian authorities arrested Samuel Bankman-Fried at the request of the United States Government pursuant to a sealed indictment filed by SDNY,” wrote U.S. Attorney Damian Williams. “We expect to open the indictment in the morning and there will be more to say at that time.”

Representatives for Bankman-Fried’s legal team did not immediately respond to CNN’s request for comment.
