Democrat Adam Frisch announced in a Facebook Live speech that he called GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert and lost the race for Colorado’s third congressional district.
Although the secretary of state will have an automatic recount, Frisch said he has not called for a recount, does not expect the result to change, and does not want to fundraise for a cause that is largely fruitless.
As of Friday morning, nearly all the votes had been counted, leaving Boebert ahead of Frisch by just 551 votes in Republican districts considered safe. In Colorado, any race decided by a margin of 0.5 percent or less of the vote the frontrunner received is automatically recounted. The current margin of 551 votes is about 0.34 percent of Boebert’s 163,758 votes.
According to the information released by the Office of the Secretary of State of Colorado, except for one county in the West Slope District, all other counties have completed the ticket registration.
Under Colorado law, counties have until Nov. 29 to complete a risk-limited audit, which involves double-checking a small number of ballots against recorded ballots, and then have until Nov. 30 to certify their final results.
Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold has until Dec. 5 to certify the election results and order any mandatory recounts. These recounts must be completed by December 13.
Boebert’s close race in a seat that has become more Republican after redistricting — where former President Donald Trump would have held an 8-point lead in 2020 — surprised many political observers. Frisch, a local businessman and former Aspen city councilman, is using the election as a referendum on the hardline lawmaker’s contentious tenure in Washington.Throughout the race, his campaign revolved around a trailer called the “Beat Boebert Buggy” Introduction to Twitter Describes Frisch as “the candidate to beat Lauren Boebert”.
Boebert told CNN last week that a lack of enthusiasm among voters for her party’s gubernatorial and U.S. Senate candidates has led to her running closer than expected.
She noted that the governor. Jared Polis and Sen. Fellow Democrat Michael Bennet was re-elected.
“I think Polis and Bennet definitely got the ticket for the Democrats,” she told CNN.
“I don’t know if we didn’t have enough enthusiasm for the top candidates for governor and Senate, or what happened there. But there’s a lot of vote shifting there,” she said, before adding, “Of course, I want to win. ”
Boebert was a political newcomer in 2020 when she upset members of Congress. Scott Tipton in the Republican primary. She has gained meaningful support in Colorado by positioning herself as a close ally of Trump. However, her bombastic political style has caused controversy in Washington. Earlier this year, she yelled at President Joe Biden during his State of the Union address when he discussed helping America’s veterans and baselessly suggested the Minnesota congressman in 2021. Ilhan Omar is a terrorist making national headlines. Boebert later apologized to “anyone in the Muslim community that I have offended.”
Boebert’s campaign is one of the few House races that CNN has yet to call as of Friday morning. Other races not called include several in California and a contest in Alaska’s At-Large district, which could be decided next week by the state’s new ranked-choice voting system.
