Natick, Massachusetts –(Business Wire) — Cognex Corporation (Nasdaq: CGNX ), a leading machine vision company, has acquired SAC Sirius Advanced Cybernetics GmbH, a German lighting technology leader (“SAC”). The acquisition expands Cognex’s footprint in high-speed manufacturing industries with low tolerance for safety-critical failures, such as automotive and consumer electronics. Cognex plans to combine SAC’s Trevista product with its Vision Pro software product.
Founded in Karlsruhe, Germany in 1996, SAC’s strong customer base includes leading European automotive suppliers and manufacturers.
“SAC’s technology will enhance our defect detection capabilities and put us in a particularly strong position as an electric vehicle battery manufacturer,” said Joerg Kuechen, Cognex Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. The combination of Naishi’s vision and artificial intelligence tools will allow us to have industry-leading computational lighting technology. Lighting is key to battery inspection because it can illuminate small defects on the surface that, if not detected, may could lead to failures that compromise safety. EV battery testing is a large, fast-growing market with complex testing requirements. We are excited to continue building our capabilities and deepening our penetration into this market.”
