COATESVILLE – Now’s your chance to experience the satisfying thud of dropping an ax into a bullseye while team building with co-workers, on date night, or with family and friends.
While renovations are underway, Splitting Edge Ax Throwing in Coatesville at 204 E. Lincoln Highway was recently opened to those who want to throw an axe. There is a similar location in Malvern and Pottstown run by the same partners.
Maximum 12 people per lane, those looking to enjoy a fun evening in Coatesville will be accompanied by an instructor who will guide everyone through the experience, coordinate the race and keep score.
Splitting Edge with Matt Bartnicki, Michael Majewski Jr., Daniel Glennon and Steven Everett. Michael’s father, Michael Sr., is helping to renovate part of the former Coatesville Record Building, which was just a cavity with no plumbing or electricity.
The building will feature 7 fairways with original brick walls, rubber fairways and turf floors to make the game look like it’s on the outside.
Teams will fight each other, Bartnicki said.
“People are breaking out of their shells like never before,” he said. “It’s a fun and different type of experience.
“Everyone went bowling, now it’s time to throw the axe.”
Coaches will make sure everyone is safe.
“It’s not a business if people get hurt,” Bartnicki said.
Majewski Jr. says Bartnicki and the coaches can teach someone how to throw an ax in minutes.
“Matt is the master axeman in Chester County,” said Majewski Jr. Say. “Matt taught me how to throw an ax the right way.”
Bartnicki loves teaching and seeing others learn.
“When you see the first bull’s-eye, you’re very powerful,” he said. “When you take the ax off the board, you just want to do it again.”
Majewski Jr. added a couple of vintage chainsaws as decorations. He also used pallets and parts of the same tree to make countertops and built a VIP loft on the second floor.
“I love recycling,” he says with a laugh.
The new Record Kitchen + Bar next door will serve food and drinks via servers. There are tables, counters and chairs to sit and eat and drink while watching a play. Alcoholic beverages are served, but BYOB is not.
