This is the third annual American Welding Society competition hosted by Erie Institute of Technology.
Thirty-eight welders signed up for the competition, which was divided into two categories: one for students and one for professionals. The President of the Northwest Chapter of the American Welding Society (AWS) explains how the competition works.
“We had a blueprint for them. They had to lay out all the parts. It was a GMAW process and a SMAW process. They had an hour to complete the test,” said AWS President Jeremy Crytze.
Welders used all carbon steel in the competition. The winners received various prizes.
